Renew your library books

You are allowed to borrow up to eight items at a time. The standard loan period is four weeks.
In some limited circumstances this may differ, for example if we have borrowed a book from another library service for you.

This page is split into the following sections:

    • How many times you can renew an item
    • How to renew your books online
    • How to renew your books using a self-service kiosk
    • How to reset your renewal limit
    • Who to contact if you have problems with renewals

How many times you can renew an item

Providing there are no other reservations on the items, you may renew your book loans up to five times consecutively via your library catalogue account or using the ‘Renew’ function on the the self-service kiosk in Chilton, Colindale or Porton libraries.

How to renew your books using a self-service kiosk

Use the Renew function on the self-service kiosks.
Please note that you will need your library catalogue account username and password.
It is possible to print a receipt stating the new due date.

How to reset your renewal limit: what happens after five renewals

Library staff need to see the book so that we can ensure it is still in your possession.
If you are based at Chilton, Colindale or Porton you can take the book to the library during staffed opening hours. If nobody else wants the book they will reset your renewal limit to enable you to make up to a further five renewals.

If you do not have access to one of libraries at your base, you may return the book to us by post and ask for it to be renewed.

Alternatively, you may email [email protected] to arrange a video call with a member of our team.
Have the item[s] to hand on the call and show them to our member of team using your laptop camera.
This enables us to make a quick visual check to verify that you still have the item[s] within your possession.
If nobody else wants the item[s] we will reset your renewal limit to enable you to make up to a further five renewals.

Who to contact if you have problems with renewals

If you experience any problems renewing your books, please email [email protected] or see a member of library staff in Chilton, Colindale or Porton libraries.
