OpenAthens

Registering for an OpenAthens account allows you to access a range of UKHSA subscribed electronic resources including e-journals, e-books and databases, as well as NHS Core Content. If you already have an account, you can start at MyAthens or visit our Accessing resources page for more information.

Creating a new OpenAthens account

To be automatically approved for an account, please follow the appropriate steps below.

UKHSA staff

UKHSA staff can now access evidence sources using single sign-on (your existing IT account) instead of setting up an OpenAthens account. Resources supplied by Knowledge and Library Services such as journals, ebooks and bibliographic databases are covered. For further information see Accessing resources.

OHID staff

Please register at NICE OpenAthens. Use your DHSC email address and enter OHID as your organisation. Please note that we may contact you to verify your eligibility. Once registered you should receive an email confirmation with a link to create your own password. For further information, see Support for OHID staff.

NHS England Public Health staff

Please register at NICE OpenAthens. Use your NHS email address and enter Public health – NHS England as your organisation. Please note that we may contact you to verify your eligibility. Once registered you should receive an email confirmation with a link to create your own password. For further information, see Support for NHSE Public Health staff.

Local Authority Public Health staff

Please register at NICE OpenAthens. Use your workplace email address and enter Public health staff in England as your organisation unless you have been advised otherwise. Please note that we may contact you to verify your eligibility. Once registered you should receive an email confirmation with a link to create your own password. For further information, see Support for Local Authority Public Health teams.

Changing your settings if you already have an OpenAthens account

If you already have an OpenAthens account with another organisation/NHS trust, you can log in to your current account from NICE OpenAthens. Use the yellow ‘log in’ link on the top right and on your homepage there is an option to ‘change organisation’. Follow the advice for your organisation in the previous section.

This will give you access to UKHSA Knowledge and Library Services’ wider range of electronic resources. For more information, see our Accessing resources page.

Forgotten your password?

If you have forgotten your password, you can reset this yourself from the NICE forgotten password page.
