What improvements are being made to KLS online?

The new search functionality will provide a ‘one stop shop’ search across PHE KLS library holdings and our electronic resources through a single search.

Improving the page structure of our KLS webpage will provide better information about the services available to you, and how to access them.

The improvements will be made in two phases.

What’s better about it?

  • Improved search functionality. For the first time you will be able to search a rich public health knowledge and evidence-base in one single, search-engine style search. This includes electronic resources (ejournals, ebooks, databases) and our library catalogue (books, print journals, theses?), and (need something here about the Knowledge base stuff)
  • New and improved comprehensive service information to help you make the most of PHE Knowledge and Library Services
  • Reserve items online through your personal online account and manage your loans?
  • The pages are mobile-device friendly

How will the changes affect me?

The initial crossover period is 26 – 28 February 2018 and most of our systems, including access to the library catalogue, will be unavailable during this time.
The improvements will be made in two phases.

Phase one is the restored access to the library catalogue and KLS online on 28 February 2018.

  • If you have our current URL saved, you will need to update your bookmark to https://phelibrary.koha-ptfs.co.uk/. Don’t worry if you forget to do this, a redirect will be in place to the new URL from 28 February 2018
  • Access to your personal online account will be seamless from the PHE network, enabling you to renew and reserve items. If you would like to be able to access your personal account from outside the PHE network, please contact us to obtain your account password or click the forgotten password option to create one
  • Please note that any items on loan during the crossover period will automatically be transferred to your personal account in the refreshed system

The second phase will see our library catalogue and Discovery service combined into an improved, easy-to-use single search with seamless access to fulltext for all subscribed resources. This will be launched when the system testing of phase one is complete.

We will try to keep disruption to a minimum, however during the implementation some temporary disruption to our catalogue or web pages may be necessary.   The refreshed system will remain in development mode for the first 12 months of service.

How can I get involved?
